Welcome to Rick Clayton's Climb to a Million Page
What is the Lendmark Climb to a Million?
2019 is the fourth year that Lendmark Financial has sponsored the Climb to a Million. The past three events have raised almost $1,300,000 combined. This year, Lendmark has again committed to raise $500,000 and to walk 5 million steps at Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, GA to conquer childhood cancer on August 17, 2019. Steps will be accrued by employees either walking or running around a track or by climbing stadiums. 100% of the money raised by Lendmark will go directly to CURE Childhood Cancer and will be allocated to pediatric cancer research.
Why childhood cancer?
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in children
Every year, an estimated 250,000 new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide
Two-thirds of childhood cancer patients will have long lasting chronic conditions from treatment.
1 out of 5 children diagnosed will die.
Less than 4% of funding for cancer research is allocated to childhood cancers.
A childhood cancer diagnosis completely dismantles a family’s daily routine and life
Who is CURE?
CURE Childhood Cancer was founded in 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia, driven by a stark realization that children were dying from cancer due to a lack of funding for the research that could save their lives. CURE’s mission is to conquer childhood cancer and they are dedicated to advancing research, specifically directed to treating and saving the lives of children. CURE also supports families through one of life’s most difficult trials by addressing their most critical and urgent needs.
Why is Lendmark working with CURE?
Lendmark is aligning with CURE because of their commitment to childhood cancer research across the country. Almost 90% of dollars raised by CURE go directly to pediatric cancer research and family support. The dollars we raise will be used to fund some of the best, most promising childhood cancer research in the country at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University. This is a nationwide effort with nation-wide benefits. Our dollars might be the answer.
Why the Climb?
The Climb is representative of the challenges these children face. Our CEO, Bobby Aiken, runs stadiums as a workout regularly. It’s hard, it hurts, and it takes determination to fight through it. The physical and mental demand of running and walking up stadiums is nothing in comparison to the fight these children fight every day.
