Team Jared and Brandon
On April 15, 2014 our nightmare began. Jared was at synagogue for Passover with his brother Joshua, who is 3 years older than Jared. He laid down on a couch to take a "nap" and never woke up. When we arrived at CHOA we were informed Jared had a "rare" malignant brain tumor (glioblastoma multiforme) that had burst. How could this be? We didn't even know he was sick! Earlier that week Jared was playing baseball, playing with friends and family, and enjoying his week off from school. On April 18, 2014 Jared was removed from life support after being pronounced brain dead. Jared was only 7 years old when he died. He never got to finish first grade at the Davis Academy, or fulfill his dream of being an NFL player and a rockstar .... he had been learning how to play the electric guitar.
Brandon was about to start his senior year when he diagnosed at 17 with stage 4 Nodular Predominant Lymphocyte Hodgkins Lymphoma. It is a very rare type of Hodgkins and accounts for only 2-5% of Lymphoma cases in the country. It is even more rare to have advanced stage and be under 30 years old. Brandon did 6 rounds of chemo and then radiation. He continued to go to work, school, and play basketball while going through treatment. He was blessed enough to have a village supporting him through his fight and knows that not everyone has that kind of support. Unfortunately Brandon relapsed after 3 months and is now facing a stem cell transplant. He is a fighter and will continue to fight until this disease is gone!
Brandon walked last year in memory of Jared Forman and now is faced with walking in memory of Jared AND in honor of his own continued fight against this horrible disease. He walks for himself and for so many others fighting this battle. He hopes you will join our team and create the biggest showing of support Lauren’s Walk has ever seen. Together we can show everyone what a village can do!!
